What better way to enjoy a world-class dive travel adventure than aboard SS Thorfinn, a one-of-a-kind, ocean-going ship refitted and transformed into the perfect liveaboard for exploring Micronesia and the legendary World War II wrecks of Truk Lagoon. Built 50 years ago in Norway to safely navigate the treacherous waters of Antarctica, the massive 170-ft Thorfinn is one of the world's largest and most seaworthy liveaboards. With a one-to-one crew to passenger ratio, spacious staterooms and state-of-the-art dive support equipment including nitrox and four high-speed dive tenders, Thorfinn offers the highest standards of service, safety and comfort.
:: ONBOARD SS THORFINN ::
At 170-ft and 1,100 tons, SS Thorfinn is simply unrivaled for onboard stability. Multiple decks enhance comfort and provide ample space for an abundance of equipment aimed at enhancing your liveaboard trip.
Deck C features the entertainment center with huge ocean aquarium, bar, multi system TV monitor, video players, big video library, 4 channel CD sound system on 6 speakers, slide tables, slide projector / screen. Eleven spacious staterooms feature multi system TV/VCR's, indirect lighting, full length closets, queen sized beds with adjacent singles, bright carpeting with modern decors, and ensuite facilities in most quarters. Two separate dining lounges and adjacent modern galley serve up the daily feasts.
Two dive service areas eliminate congestion, providing each six-person group with convenient valet systems of gear handling plus rinse tanks, deck showers, fresh towels and gear bins. Add nitrox, four high-speed dive tenders and two camera service tables, and you've got the perfect dive support system.
When you're not diving, there's sunbathing on Deck B, a big 12-person spa on Deck C, and below decks, the world's largest liveaboard engine room where machinery buffs will marvel at the massive steam propulsion system that quietly delivers Thorfinn's maximum speed of 17 knots.
:: EXPLORE TRUK'S LEGENDARY WWII WRECKS ::
The folly of military conquest, the horror of violence and war, the ultimate and inevitable end of all technology: Chuuk is more than just another wreck dive. It is an opportunity to witness the power of nature to transcend our lunacy and create life where once we sought death and destruction. Just 55+ years ago, this remote archipelago was the Pacific base of Japan's naval fleet. Then it all came to an abrupt and violent end in February 1944 when American forces sank much of the Japanese war fleet. Since then, Truk Lagoon has evolved into an underwater war museum and the world's most renowned wreck diving destination.
